Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; …”
Genesis 1:26
This may seem like an asinine question right off the bat, but who is the “us” in this statement of God’s? I’m all about the Holy Trinity. I get it. I also understand that God wrote the Bible and not the men (I want to say “and women”, but that’s a laugh) that actually wrote it, so there’s some omniscience for the future going on here…but still, who is this “us”? God is one singular being. Whomever wrote Genesis wasn’t all about Jesus or the Holy Spirit yet. And even if it was the Holy Spirit, would humankind be in its image? Is God talking to the beast and the fish? What is this?
But here’s the answer: God is talking to the angels, who are also in His image. To verify this, I scan the text I’ve just read to assure myself that God already created the angels. EXCEPT NO…he hasn’t created them yet (at least not that I can discern from the text. Come to think of it, when did God create the angels?)! Who is he talking to?! What is going on here?!
Are there other gods? No. Of course not. It’s a typo of my fantastic Catholic Bible. Except it isn’t. I checked a few others and it’s in there too.
To begin, I find myself confused on logistics and semantics. It’s Day 1. I don’t think this is going to discontinue anytime soon, either. But, press on “we” shall (thank you, Gollum).
It’s a good one this … check out the elohim

It’s funny how many (evil unbelieving, beyond redemption) people seem to be doing this bible reading thing now … I’ve come across a few blogs since I started it.
